Books for Africa

Africa-149The Moore School community has ample opportunity to make a difference in the lives of African students by donating to any of three book drives being held this year.

The American Marketing Association is currently sponsoring a book drive for students at universities in Nigeria. These can be any kind of new or used book, not limited to textbooks. Books may be deposited in a designated box at the AMA booth on the first floor of the Moore School.  In addition, the AMA will contribute boxes for other collection points.  Last year, faculty, staff, and students contributed close to 3,500 books, and the student association was recognized at the International AMA Conference in New Orleans, in part, due to this successful service project.

The Accounting Department also hosts a year-round collection of textbooks for countries in Africa, primarily Nigeria. Ph.D. student, Nelson Alino, initiated this project which donates books to the nonprofit organization, Helping Hands in Africa.

Finally, Moore School student organizations are collectively accepting donations of textbooks to send to Ethiopia through the nonprofit Bethany Foundation. College textbooks in good condition and no more than 5-7 years old may be donated in the undergraduate division, room 201, of the Moore School.  Dr. Rob Rolfe and Dr. Laura Lambdin are spearheading this effort to support university students in Ethiopia, which is experiencing a "brain drain" of its highly educated students.

Please contribute any unwanted books and textbooks to these important causes.
