
Ten business executives from Mexico spent the week
of Aug. 14 on the University of South Carolina's Columbia campus for the kickoff of the third
Executive IMBA (EIMBA) class. Launched in August 2004,
the 20-month program is offered jointly by the Moore School of Business and the Instituto
Tecnologico y de Estudios de Monterrey in Guadalajara, Mexico, popularly known as Tec de Monterrey.
The EIMBA's inaugural class members received their master's degrees in May. The second EIMBA
class will graduate in May 2007.
The newest class attended orientation, workshops, a career management session, and two global
business leadership seminars in Columbia Aug. 14-18. The students will earn two degrees: an
EIMBA from USC and a Meastria en Administracion from Tec de Monterrey.
The program is aimed at senior Mexican managers in their 30s and 40s who continue to work
while earning their degrees. After the opening week in Columbia, classes are taught every third
weekend in Guadalajara, utilizing both Moore School and Tec de Monterrey faculty.
Last fall, the program was ranked the eighth-best MBA program in Mexico by Expansion, a
well-known Mexican magazine.
The newest class members are Omar Abad, human resources director for Hershey Mexico; Oskar
Beckmann, CEO of Lizen Motors (Audi); Jose Gonzales de Cosio, finance director of Constructora
Immobiliaria Los Patos; Fernando Gonzalez, LA global activation manger for Lenovo of Mexico; Ivan
Lopez, president/CEO of GEM; Roberto Ruiz, regional sales manager of Interplex Mexico; Jesus
Mendoza, president/CEO of Industrai Resinera de Atemajac; Hugo Ochoa, field services manager for
Pepsico; Claudio Ramirez, IT director for Ryder de Mexico; and Carlos Rivadeneyra, financial
controller of C&A Mexico. Their work experience ranges from six to 15 years.
