The Moore School welcomes 13 new faculty members this academic year.

Dr. Cem Bahadir,
assistant professor of marketing, earned a BS in industrial engineering from Istanbul Technical
University in Turkey, an MS in engineering management from Marmara University in Istanbul, and a
Ph.D. from Emory University. His research interests are in the area of marketing actions –
financial performance relationships and cross-country marketing strategy, and he teaches courses
related to marketing strategy and strategic brand management. Dr. Bahadir’s business experience
includes supervision of a quality assurance certification project for human resources functions at
one of the leading diversified conglomerates in Turkey, and involvement in strategic management
development projects at the corporate level. |

Dr. Joseph K. Goodman, assistant professor of marketing, earned his BBA and Ph.D.
in marketing from the University of Texas at Austin, where he was awarded the Fred Moore Award for
Teaching Excellence. His teaching interests are marketing principles, consumer behavior, and brand
management. His research interest is in consumer decision making, and his research has appeared in
the multidisciplinary journal Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes. |

Dr. John
Gordanier, lecturer of economics, earned a BS in economics and a BS in statistics,
both from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and an MS in economics and a Ph.D. in economics,
both from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He taught for one year at Amherst College before
arriving at Moore. His research interests are in the areas of personnel economics, labor economics,
and industrial organization. He is currently a member of the advisory panel for the Law Firm’s
Working Group, a cross-disciplinary group of researchers studying empirical aspects of law
firms. |

Dr. Omrane Guedhami,
assistant professor of international business, earned a BA in finance with honors from HEC Carthage
in Tunisia, an MS in finance from HEC Montreal, and a Ph.D. in finance from Laval University in
Quebec City, Quebec. He previously taught courses in financial management, investments, and
international finance at Laval University and Memorial University of Newfoundland. His research
interests primarily are in the areas of privatization, liberalization, and corporate governance,
with a particular focus on emerging markets. His research has been widely published, and he is the
recipient of several Best Paper awards. He was recently nominated for the Haynes Prize for the Most
Promising Scholar at the Academy of International Business Meeting. |

Dr. Paulo Guimarães,
clinical associate professor of economics, continues with the Moore School after serving as
visiting research professor in the spring. He earned a BS in economics from the University of
Porto, Oporto, Portugal, and a Ph.D. in economics from the Moore School of Business. His primary
research interests include industrial economics, regional economics, and applied econometrics. As
research economist in the Division of Research at the Moore School, he forecasts economic
conditions for the state and region, and the results are published in S.C. Economic Indicators and
the S.C. Economic Outlook. He previously served as research assistant professor in the Department
of Biostatistics, Bioinformatics and Epidemiology at the Medical University of South Carolina in
Charleston, South Carolina. |

Dr. Caglar Irmak, assistant
professor of marketing, earned a BS in electrical and electronics engineering and an MBA, both from
Bilkent University in Turkey, and a Ph.D. in marketing from Baruch College, City University of New
York. His general research area is consumer behavior. He previously taught courses in marketing
strategy and new product development at Baruch College. |

Dr. Christian
Jensen, assistant professor of economics, earned a BS in economics from Carlos III
University in Madrid, Spain, an MS in economics from Carnegie Mellon University, and a Ph.D. from
Carnegie Mellon. A native of Norway, Dr. Jensen is fluent in three languages, and his research has
been published internationally. He previously served as assistant professor at Southern Methodist
University and has taught courses in macroeconomic theory, money and banking, and
econometrics. |

Dr. Kartik
Kalaignanam, assistant professor of marketing, earned a BS in electrical engineering
from the University of Mumbai, a PGDM (MBA) from K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies &
Research in Mumbai, and both an MS and a Ph.D. in marketing from Texas A&M University. His
research interests are in the areas of new product alliances and customer relationship management.
His teaching interests are in the areas of marketing strategy and new product development. His
business experience includes sales and channel management in the consumer durables and sporting
goods industries. |

Dr. Yasemin Kor,
associate professor of management, earned a BS in business administration from the Middle East
Technical University in Ankara, Turkey, an MBA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign,
and a Ph.D. in business policy/strategic management, also from the University of Illinois. Her
research interests focus on the intersections of three topics of strategy research: development and
renewal of resources and capabilities, top management teams, and corporate governance. She
previously served as an assistant professor, then associate professor at the University of Delaware
and has taught courses in corporate strategy, strategic management, and new venture creation. |

Dr. Jason Murray,
assistant professor of economics, earned a BA from the University of Virginia, and a Ph.D. in
economics from the University of California at San Diego. His research interests include natural
resource economics, environmental economics, fishery management, marine conservation economics,
ecological economics, and economic growth. He previously served as a teaching assistant in the
department of economics and as teaching assistant and guest lecturer in the Center for Marine
Biodiversity and Conservation, both at the University of California. |

Dr. Joshua R. Pierce,
assistant professor of finance, earned a BA in business administration, an MS in economics, and a
Ph.D. in business administration, all from Michigan State University. His research focuses on
mergers and acquisitions, financial constraints, and managerial labor markets. He teaches advanced
corporate finance at the undergraduate level and real estate finance at the graduate level. |

Ronald Sebeczek,
lecturer of management, teaches strategic management, a senior level capstone course. He earned a
BA from Illinois State University with majors in international business (honors) and Spanish, and
an MBA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His teaching interests include
strategic management, international business, and corporate finance. Other interests include
socio-political influences on strategy and international business as well as environmental
sustainability. His work experience includes stints as a senior financial analyst at Robert Bosch
and senior financial analyst at JPMorgan Chase Card Services. |

Dr. Scott F. Turner,
assistant professor of management, earned a BS in civil engineering from Clemson University, an MS
in industrial administration from Purdue University, and a Ph.D. in business administration from
the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He previously taught courses at UNC’s
Kenan-Flagler Business School and at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of
Maryland, and will be teaching strategic management at Moore. His research interests examine the
intersection of innovation, change, and organizational routines. |
