Dr. Shu Yan, assistant professor of finance, received an award for best research paper in investments for his paper, “Reducing Estimation Risk in Portfolio Selection Decision-Making when Short Sales Are Allowed,” coauthored with Gordon Alexander (University of Minnesota) and Alexandre Baptista (George Washington University), at the Southern Finance Association annual meeting held November 14-17 in Charleston, South Carolina. Monica Marin, a fourth-year Ph.D. student in finance, won the award for best student research paper for her paper, "Can Risk Management Help Prevent Bankruptcy?"
