Dr.Bill Hauk, assistant professor of
economics, was a guest on the nationally syndicated "Teen Forum," a public affairs radio program
for young people produced by WOIC 1230 AM here in Columbia. The topic was the economy and the
election, in particular, how the recent Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac bailouts and economic stimulus
checks would affect the political landscape. Dr. Hauck interacted with a group of young people,
who, he said, "were very worried about where the money that the government was spending on bailouts
was going to come from. They were also concerned about whether or not the economic stimulus checks
sent out by the government were going to do much to help the economy." How are the young people
going to spend stimulus checks? "Saving for school books was a common option."
