Investiture Held for Dr. Allen Berger, Now Professor at the University of South Carolina

An investiture ceremony was held at Rutledge Chapel on the University of South Carolina campus October 1 for Dr. Allen Berger, who recently joined the Moore School of Business as the H. Montague Osteen, Jr. Professor in Banking and Finance.  Prior to his appointment at the Moore School, Berger served as a senior economist at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve.

University President Harris Pastides presided over the event honoring Berger, one of the country’s most-published authors on topics related to financial institutions. Berger also holds positions as a Senior Fellow at the Wharton Financial Institutions Center of the University of Pennsylvania and an Extramural Fellow at CentER, the business and economics research institute at Tilburg University, the Netherlands.

The endowed chair held by Berger is named for H. Montague Osteen, Jr., a University of South Carolina alumnus and retired chairman and CEO of Bankers First Corporation.  A resident of Augusta, Georgia, Osteen earned bachelor's and master's degrees in economics from the university in 1963 and 1965, respectively.
