Many of the Moore School’s 1,062 new freshmen
attended a New Student Reception Aug. 19 in the school’s lobby. It is thought to be the
business school’s largest freshman class ever, with business freshmen making up nearly a third of
the entire University of South Carolina freshman class of 3,700. Moore School freshmen this
year are from 34 states and eight countries. Dr. Carolyn Jones, assistant dean of the
Undergraduate Division, says the average SAT score is up from 1175 in 2006 to 1188 in 2007.
Some 31 percent of the 2007-2008 freshmen Capstone Scholars (students with a required SAT of 1250
and above) are enrolled in the Moore School, while 22 percent are in the Honors
College. Overall, 20 percent of all business school students this fall are either in the
Honors College or are Capstone Scholars. A Moore School freshman is one of 37 Carolina
Scholars this year, while two out of 25 are McNair Scholars.
