A professor
of international business at the Moore School and the former director of the school’s Daniel
Management Center (DMC) have donated $10,000 from their strategic management consulting firm to
fund fellowships for Moore graduate students, particularly those interested in pursuing a
consulting career after graduation.
Dr. David M. Schweiger, Buck Mickel/Fluor Daniel Professor of International Business, and Dr Robert L. Lippert (Ph.D., ’92), director of the DMC from 2000 until the spring of 2004, said the new Schweiger, Lippert & Associates Fellowship is their way of “giving back” to the Moore School. “We understand our roots, and we know how important the Moore School has been to us,” said Schweiger.
The firm will also employ at least one Moore International MBA student as an intern during 2005.
Schweiger said the fellowship is part of his firm’s effort to increase interest in the consulting profession. In addition, he thinks the Moore School should broaden its portfolio to put more emphasis on consulting in addition to teaching and research. “We are a professional school, and so consulting is value-added for the college.”
Lippert, who was a visiting professor at Moore before taking over the DMC directorate, said the Moore School “provides endless opportunities. It is as good as Harvard without the brand.”< /p>
Schweiger, Lippert & Associates, based in Columbia, was founded in May 2004. They say their firm “uses a fact-driven analytical process to work closely with client executives and managers to enable them to make sound judgments and logical decisions that bring clarity and commitment to strategy development.”
