Biographical Information

Dr. Richard Robinson - Richard B. Robinson teaches Entrepreneurship, Strategic Management, and coordinates a small company field projects class at The Moore School of Business, University of South Carolina, where he is a Business Partnership Foundation Fellow and Professor of Management.

Dr. Robinson has co-authored 16 books and authored or co-authored over 150 refereed journal articles, research presentations, and business case studies used by students, teachers, and managers.

Richard Robinson graduated from Georgia Tech as a co-op student in 1969; he earned an MBA at the University of Georgia in 1972. Richard then worked in a closely held company assisting in the management of three Holiday Inns, where he also helped start one successful restaurant chain and failed with another. He then entered UGA's Ph.D. program. He moved to Columbia in 1980. Richard has served as co-owner & president of a hazardous waste management company that was sold to Laidlaw Environmental in 1992. He now serves on Palmetto Seed Capital Fund's investment advisory committee.

Dean Kress - Dean H. Kress serves as Associate Director of the Faber Entrepreneurship Center. He graduated from Clemson University, then started his own retail business. After three years, he joined Gate Petroleum Co. of Jacksonville, FL, serving, at various times, as Racquet Club Manager, Real Estate and Credit Manager, Training Supervisor, and Area Supervisor. After earning an MBA, he came to the University of South Carolina as Senior Consultant and then Area Manager of the Small Business Development Center. He has served as a consultant to more than 100 small businesses in South Carolina. He has served as a strategic advisor and financial analyst with several South Carolina entrepreneurs and other organizations that attempt to work with them. He has been a judge in the Small Business Person of the Year competition sponsored by the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce for five years.  He presently teaches the Master's level Entrepreneurship Praticum course at the Moore School of Business and also coordinates all center activities.
