Biography

Elchanan Cohn is Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Economics and Fellow of the Business Partnership Foundation at the University of South Carolina Moore School of Business, and founder and Editor-in-Chief of the Economics of Education Review. From 1968 to 1974 he was Assistant and then Associate Professor of economics at the Pennsylvania State University, where he also was a Research Associate at the Institute for Research on Human Resources. Educated at the University of Minnesota (B.A., M.A.) and Iowa State University (Ph.D.), he teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in public finance and the economics of education, and undergraduate courses in principles of economics and current economic issues.

Dr. Cohn's research has focused on the economics of education and economic education. He is the author, co-author or editor of ten books, including the highly acclaimed The Economics of Education (Pergamon Press, 1990; with Terry G. Geske), now in its third edition. He has contributed numerous articles to professional journals in economics, education, and business, including the Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Political Economy, American Economic Review, Journal of Human Resources, Journal of Education Finance, Higher Education, and many more. He served on the editorial boards of Educational Economics and the Wall Street Review of Books, and is currently on the editorial board of the Journal of Economic Education. He has conducted extensive studies, among others, on the economic returns to schooling, efficiency of school operations, factors that determine learning in principles of economics courses at the college level, and equity of the school finance system in South Carolina.

Dr. Cohn received the University's Russell Award for Research in the Humanities and Social Sciences in 1992, and the Distinguished Faculty Researcher Award from the Moore School of Business in 1999.
