General Requirements

Although it is possible to complete the program in one calendar year, it normally takes three full semesters plus the summer to complete the MA in Economics program.

Each student must complete a minimum of 24 semester hours of approved graduate course work, prepare an acceptable thesis, and pass a comprehensive oral examination upon completion of the course work and thesis. Prior to graduating, a student must successfully defend the thesis before a faculty committee. The program is sufficiently flexible to meet the needs of each individual student.
MA in Economics as an Applied Terminal Degree
A student planning a career in business or government may emphasize applied areas of economics and business administration and regard the Master of Arts in Economics as a terminal degree. All MA in Economics students must acquire a strong background in economics, but students seeking an applied emphasis are provided an opportunity for courses and research experiences with direct relevance to contemporary business and social problems. These students may obtain six hours of credit selected from finance, accounting, or labor relations. The program requires:
