M.A. Economics

Frequently Asked Questions

1.   Is an undergraduate degree in Economics required for admission?
No, we enroll students with a variety of academic backgrounds.  However, students who do not have an undergraduate degree in business or economics may have some additional coursework they need to satisfy.

2.  How long does it take to complete the M.A. Economics program?
Students are required to complete 24 hours of coursework, plus 6 hours of thesis preparation.  Students typically complete the program in 18-24 months.  Students can usually complete any prerequisites within this schedule.

3.  Can a master's degree be pursued on a part-time or evening basis?
Yes, it is possible to pursue the degree on a part-time basis.  Although many of the courses are available in the evening, we can not guarantee that you will be able to take all of the classes at night.  The part-time option works best if you have a flexible schedule.

4.  Is financial aid available?
The M.A. Economics has a limited number of tuition reduction scholarships available.   These are merit based and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis to qualified students.  These are typically offered for Fall entry and are awarded for the duration of your studies.  Students are encouraged to apply by December 1 if they are interested in being considered for this scholarship.  All students may also apply for student loans.

3.  Are foreign national applicants considered for financial aid awards?
Yes, all financial aid award decisions are made on a merit basis.

5.  What are the admission requirements?
Students are required to submit an application, a Moore School supplemental application, resume, statement of career objectives, GMAT/GRE/TOEFL scores, transcripts, and at least 2 letters of recommendation.

6.  Do you prefer the GMAT or GRE?
While we will accept either the GMAT or GRE, the GRE is preferred for the Economics program.

7.  Can international students waive the TOEFL examination?
International applicants are exempted from TOEFL if they have completed a degree program in the United States.

8.  What is the Education Testing Service institutional code for submission of GMAT/GRE/TOEFL scores?
