It's common knowledge that the way you interact with others plays a large role in how they measure your job performance. But for most of us, it's difficult to perceive exactly how we come across. Almost all of us sometimes find ourselves in situations where we have difficulty asserting ourselves and making our objectives known. The key to communicating more assertively and more effectively lies in developing an understanding of your basic communication style, and then learning how to modify it through the consistent application of basic assertiveness principles.

In this comprehensive workshop, you will learn whether your current behavior is assertive, non-assertive or aggressive. Then, through role-playing and individualized feedback from instructors and other participants, you will learn how to adapt your communication style to get the results you want.

Also has served as an adjunct and guest faculty member at Texas A&M University, University of Houston, and University of South Carolina. Teaching specialties include negotiation, leadership skills, ethics, integrity in decision-making, time management, and goal setting.

Dr. Larry Salters, Director, USC Career Center; adjunct faculty, College of Education. Consults on career decision making, interviewing skills, and interpreting the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator.
