The Moore School's mission is to provide a hands-on educational experience and to deliver
product knowledge, quantitative skills, and market experience in the dynamic fields of investment
portfolio, asset/liability, and financial management. Two programs are offered concurrently.
Participants generally attend Program I first and Program II the following year. However,
Program II maybe attended initially if preferred. Participants qualify for Continuing
Professional Education (CPE) credit.
Special Features
Participants will be introduced to the latest technology to analyze specific investment
products, interest rate risk models, and derivatives applications. Both programs include a
tutorial on the use of Bloomberg. One session addresses how brokers use and abuse Bloomberg
in their contact with investors. Other sessions emphasize practical applications and case
studies including the interpretation and use of information.
Participants are asked to construct an investment portfolio given current economic conditions
and investment alternatives and complete case studies involving valuing a bank, funding the balance
sheet, liquidity planning and mergers & acquisitions.

Objectives
Classes start with the fundamentals of valuation and securities pricing. An elective
course on investment basics is offered for those new to managing a bond portfolio. Classes then
develop specific investment portfolio management expertise, comprehensive investment product
knowledge, and an overview of asset and liability management. Other classes address balance
sheet and financial management issues faced by community banks, including funding alternatives,
pricing loans and deposits, and performance measurement.

Who Should Attend?
Professionals new to their finance responsibilities with 1-3 year experience in the
treasury function who want to better understand investment securities and advanced portfolio
management techniques. Investment officers, cashiers, comptrollers, auditors, compliance
officers, examiners and directors or other bank officers serving on ALCO. Regulators and portfolio
managers of non-bank financial institutions may also benefit from this program.

Objectives
Core classes emphasize comprehensive asset/liability and general risk management
techniques. Students will operate a bank as part of a team in a competitive simulation that
emphasizes ALM. Participants should gain a clear understanding of MBSs, the optionality in
investments and funding and interest rate risk analytics. Topics include liquidity management,
capital management strategies, option valuation and OAS analysis, on and off-balance sheet
strategies, merger and acquisition analysis, and timely insight into investment portfolio
opportunities. Classes will examine the risk/return features of agency securities, CMOs, ABSs,
trust-preferred stock, and municipal bonds in detail.

Who Should Attend?
Professionals with a minimum of 2-4 years experience in financial institution
management who want to increase their ability to identify and control the sources of interest rate
risk, manage liquidity and capital, and analyze/invest in securities with embedded options. Members
of ALCO, ALM specialists and controllers.
