Homeland Security - an "Invitational Priority" during the
recent CIBER Grant Proposal submission round.

CIBER Homeland Security Booklet
The SC CIBER is lead-managing the Homeland Security priority for all 31 CIBERs for the next
four years, and one of the first tasks involved was the publication of the CIBER Homeland
Security Booklet which outlines all CIBER activities in the area of "National Security and Economic
Competitiveness" from October 2006 through September 2010. This publication is now avaialble
on the
CIBERweb
site.

IMBA Arabic Language Track
Instituted in 2005-2006, the International MBA (IMBA) Program Arabic Language
Track offers a 29-34 month course of instruction consisting of five phases, to including
18 months overseas studying the Arabic lanugue for a year and completing a six-months

Faculty Research Grants
A total of $10K-$15K in CIBER funds are allocated annually for Homeland Security
competitive reseach grants for University of South Carolina faculty and faculty of other

Asia-Pacific
Homeland Security Summit & Exposition
The SC CIBER is co-sponsoring, along with lead-managing
University of Hawaii at
Manoa
, an annual Homeland Security conference. The 2008 conference - The
6th Annual Asia-Pacific Homeland Security Summit & Exposition - will be held
on October 8-10, 2008, in Honolulu, Hawaii, allowing participants from government and the
private sector to gather to share views on how best to respond to the theat of terrorism
and natural disasters through the world, but especially in the Asia-Pacific region. The
SC CIBER Director, Mike Shealy, will attend the 2008 conference and make a presentation on Homeland
Security strategies and activitiesconducted by CIBERs, representing the Southern CIBER region of
the United States.
