    The University of South Carolina CIBER, like all the other 30 Centers for International Business Education and Research in the US, has been given six mandates from the US Department of Education and the Higher Education Act of 1965 to promote international business in its various forms. Two of those mandates fall under the heading of OUTREACH activities:  

• Serve as Regional Resources to local businesses by providing programs and research designed to meet the international training needs of such businesses
• Serve as Regional Resources for other faculty, students and institutions of higher education

To that end, the SC CIBER offers a variety of programs and activities to local businesses, faculty, students, and institutions in the state of South Carolina and our Southeast Region to enhance their international business experience and expertise. These activities and programs include (but are not limited to):  Faculty Development in International Business (FDIB) programs, Historically Black College and University (HBCU) outreach, International Business research initiatives, and seminars, workshops and conferences.

• Faculty Development in International Business (FDIB) Programs   
  The University of South Carolina CIBER either sponsors or co-sponsors eight distinct annual FDIB programs - to include the CIBER LEADING EDGE ACTIVITY FDIB-Africa program, with several participant slots and CIBER scholarship stipends available to faculty from our regional area.

• Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Outreach  
  The University of South Carolina CIBER reserves participant slots for HBCU Faculty in its FDIB programs, as well as making available generous scholarship stipends for faculty from HBCU institutions in our region. The SC CIBER has also recently joined the HBCU Consortium of CIBERs and HBCU institutions, lead-managed by the University of Memphis CIBER and the Michigan State University CIBER.

• International Business Research Initiatives         
  To promote the international competitiveness of U.S. businesses in the global market - especially those businesses in the state of South Carolina and the Southeast Region - the SC CIBER offers annual CIBER research grants to its Moore School of Business faculty (as primary researchers) on various research topics of international significance (e.g., Outsourcing, Homeland Security, New Techologies and International Business, Micro-Finance, Multinational Corporations, and Business Challenges in Africa and Asia), and encourage them, when possible, to partner with other faculty from other institutions in our region. This research initiative supports not only faculty and businesses in our region but also the future global business interests of all U.S. companies. 

• Outreach through Conferences, Seminars, and Workshops
  The SC CIBER supports and assists the Daniel Management Center (DMC) of the Moore School of Business as it promotes and offers a wide-variety of public and private seminars and workshops for regional and state businesses and organizations.  A full list of the programs available can be viewed at the  DMC website . For more information concerning these activities and programs, please contact Nancy Beym, DMC.
