A Fourth Generation Family Business
In 1976, Richard Deakin Blenko attained a business management degree from the Moore
School and became the fourth generation to enter the family business. In 1989, he published
the book, Blenko Glass: 1930-1953, and founded the Blenko Glass Museum. He has appeared on
CNN, Fox (FX), SCETV, and 125 Public Television stations, and has been the topic of many national
print articles. For more than 100 years, Blenko glassware has been made
using the same methods and tools that the master craftsmen in Europe used hundreds of years
ago. All workers at Blenko are trained on the job and perpetuate a 1,000-year-old
tradition. Exquisite color, skilled craftsmen, and creative designs have made Blenko famous
in the ancient craft of handblown glass. Blenko prides itself in paying particular attention
to the forms and designs, which stay true to the tradition of handblown glass that are unique and
inspiring.
This evening, the Moore School of Business honors our distinguished award recipients with an exquisite, handblown Blenko Glass vase. We are extremely proud to become part of a tradition in which our most prestigious awards have been designed and produced by Blenko Glass Company and Richard D. Blenko, President.
