Biography

V. "Scott" Koerwer is Deputy Dean at the Moore School of Business, where his responsibilities include internal operations of programs and offices and external affairs.  Prior to coming to the University of South Carolina in November 2007, Dr. Koerwer was associate dean of professional programs and services at the Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland.

At the Smith School from April 2001 through October 2007, Dr. Koerwer worked across departments and functions.  He served as chief marketing and communications officer, co-director of the school’s Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER), and executive director of the Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship.  He also headed the school’s Office of Executive Education, Office of Career Management, the worldwide Executive MBA Programs, the MBA and MS programs, and the part-time MBA Program.  At the Smith School, Dr. Koerwer was also involved in education and business program development in countries in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.

While at Smith, Dr. Koerwer set up the Division of Executive Education; designed and inaugurated the Smith Executive MBA Program (on three continents); opened Smith School offices in Beijing and Shanghai; began the Smith Professional MS Degree programs; and established degree programming for the school in Tunisia and Switzerland.  In 2004, he was a recipient of the International Leadership Award for the State of Maryland from the World Trade Center Institute.

Dr. Koerwer has teaching experience in the areas of leadership, political science, ethics, communication, and organizational change. An entrepreneur in the education industry, he has launched three companies and worked as a consultant to numerous organizations, entrepreneurial initiatives, and educational enterprises.

Dr. Koerwer held a variety of positions during his nine-year affiliation with the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and also has worked at Drexel University, Lehigh University and DeSales University.
